RACE DIRECTOR'S PRESS RELEASE: 7/27/17
During a normal course preview by our Chief of Course, John Richter, it was brought to my attention that the City of Saint Paul has closed a section of our course. The bike path that runs from Point Douglass Road underneath Highway 61 is closed due to erosion damage to the trail.
After contacting the City to discuss our access to the trail, it became clear that due to liability issues the City of Saint Paul would not allow us to utilize that section of trail (see letter below). The City had issued us a permit for the usage of this trail months in advance and did not alert us to it's closure.
What does this mean for the Bluff Tuff? Because the bike trail is our only way to cross Highway 61, we will not be able to run the race as a point-to-point event. This left the planning committee with two options: run the race on the side of the closure with better trails, or run the race on the brewery side.
We have opted to plan a race with the best route possible and utilizing the better trails on the Battle Creek side of the closure. Thanks to a ton of work by our Chief of Course, John Richter, we have a new route that consists of a single loop half marathon course and a single lap 10k course. Given the limitations that the closure presented, this is our best course available.
I have spoken with Flat Earth Brewing and they will be representing at our finish line! So no worries beer fans, you will still have a cold one waiting for you at the finish line.
The main web page for the Bluff Tuff Half and 10k has been updated to reflect all of the changes including parking details etc.
Knowing that each of you were promised a "point to point" race, we feel terrible for having to make the change. For $15 off of the Night Light Half Marathon or the Turkey Day Trail Trot please use promo code: point2point
